Prices and payment
Trek prices are set by the HPI-ITGA guide association and displayed in euros. The prices of our standard treks are fixed and do not change from one traveller to another. Tailor-made trips and other services are quoted individually, and the price is confirmed in writing before you book. The 50% deposit is paid by bank transfer. The balance is paid on site, in cash or by a second bank transfer. Wise and Revolut are also accepted.
Deposit and cancellation
A 50% deposit is required to confirm most bookings. It is refunded in full if you cancel 30 days or more before your trek or trip is due to start, and refunded at 50% if you cancel 14 to 29 days before. Within 14 days of departure it is not refundable, because guides, camps and local partners have already been arranged on your behalf.
Weather, safety and changes to the itinerary
Treks take place in a rainforest and, in some cases, at altitude or in remote areas. Your guide may adjust the route, pace or itinerary at any point for safety reasons, including weather, water levels, wildlife activity or your own condition. These decisions are made in your interest and are not grounds for a refund unless the trek is cancelled outright before it begins.
Physical condition and travel insurance
Jungle trekking involves real physical exertion and some risk, as described honestly throughout this site. It is your responsibility to assess whether a given trek is suitable for your fitness and health, and we strongly recommend travelling with adequate travel insurance covering trekking activities, medical evacuation and cancellation (though it is not required).
Minors
Travellers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and the suitability of a given trek for a child is discussed and agreed with us in advance.
Website use
You agree to use this website only for lawful purposes, and not in a way that could damage it or restrict anyone else's use of it. This includes attempting to access it through automated means, or submitting false or misleading information through our contact form.
Intellectual property
All text, photos, and other content on this website belong to Akarimba Sumatra, unless stated otherwise, and are protected by copyright. You're welcome to share a link to our pages, but please don't copy our text or photos elsewhere without asking us first.
Limitation of liability
Jungle trekking carries inherent risks that no guide, however experienced, can fully eliminate, from weather and terrain to wildlife encounters. To the extent permitted by law, Akarimba Sumatra and its guides are not liable for injury, loss, or damage arising from participation in a trek or activity, except where caused by our own negligence. This does not affect any rights you may have under Indonesian consumer law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Indonesia, where the business is registered.
Dispute resolution
If a disagreement comes up, we'd rather sort it out directly with you first. Please get in touch. Any dispute that can't be resolved this way falls under the jurisdiction of the courts of Indonesia.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example if our policies or the law change. The current version is always the one published on this page, and it applies from the date shown at the top.

We collect as little data as possible, only to answer your enquiries and organise your trip. This site uses no cookies (see the Cookies section).

Who has access
Only Laura and Karan read your messages. To organise your trip, we share only what is needed (name, dates, number of people) with the guides, accommodation, transport and activity partners involved. We never sell your data or pass it on for any other purpose.
Our service providers
The site is hosted by Netlify, which also handles the contact form. Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which Cloudflare describes as a privacy-first tool that collects no personal data. If you write to us on WhatsApp, your messages go through WhatsApp (Meta). Our fonts (Fraunces and Inter) are hosted on our own site: your browser does not contact Google or any other third party to load them.
Data processed outside Switzerland and the European Union
Netlify and Cloudflare are US companies, and our trips take place in Indonesia. Your data may therefore be processed in these countries. We keep what is shared to the minimum needed to answer you and organise your trip.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to show, correct or delete your data, or object to its use, by writing to contact@akarimbasumatra.com. We reply within one month. If you believe your data is not being handled properly, you can contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) in Switzerland, or the data protection authority in your own country.
